False discovery rate : setting the probability of false claim of detection
نویسندگان
چکیده
When testing multiple hypothesis in a survey –e.g. many different source locations, template waveforms, and so on– the final result consists in a set of confidence intervals, each one at a desired confidence level. But the probability that at least one of these intervals does not cover the true value increases with the number of trials. With a sufficiently large array of confidence intervals, one can be sure that at least one is missing the true value. In particular, the probability of false claim of detection becomes not negligible. In order to compensate for this, one should increase the confidence level, at the price of a reduced detection power. False discovery rate control[1] is a relatively new statistical procedure that bounds the number of mistakes made when performing multiple hypothesis tests. We shall review this method, discussing exercise applications to the field of gravitational wave surveys.

متن کاملThe False Discovery Rate in Simultaneous Fisher and Adjusted Permutation Hypothesis Testing on Microarray Data
Background and Objectives: In recent years, new technologies have led to produce a large amount of data and in the field of biology, microarray technology has also dramatically developed. Meanwhile, the Fisher test is used to compare the control group with two or more experimental groups and also to detect the differentially expressed genes. In this study, the false discovery rate was investiga...
متن کاملElectronic Money Laundering Detection in Transactions of Payment Service Providers
Under the coverage of legitimate commerce, criminals money-launder their illicit incomes through the payment gateways provided by Payment Service Providers (PSP). In order to do money-laundering forensics in transactions of PSP companies, a new method was proposed by Hojati et al which is done through detecting deviations from class behavior based on peer group analysis (PGA) method. Our experi...
متن کاملA New Method for Detecting Sperms in Microscopy Images: Combination of Zernike Moments and Spatial Processing
Introduction: In recent years, modern microscopic imaging in parallel with digital image processing techniques, have facilitated computerized semen analysis. However, in these methods, distinguishing sperms from other semen particles can be hampered by low contrast of microscopic images and the possibility of neighboring sperms touching each other. Materials and Methods: This article introduced...
